Introducing the Public Dashboard in Health Data Explorer

Public access to health data is critical for better outcomes. It enables researchers and health professionals to understand what’s happening, respond more effectively, and advocate for change. But greater transparency should never mean sacrificing privacy or creating more work for public health teams.

That’s why we built the Public Dashboard in our Health Data Explorer (HDE), a secure, read-only way to share real-time, de-identified health data with the public, while protecting all personally identifiable information (PII).

A Feature Built on Real Needs

The Public Dashboard was developed in direct response to feedback from coroners, medical examiners, and public health teams. Many have the need to share non-sensitive data, like causes of death or jurisdictional trends, without manually generating reports or worrying about data privacy.

With HDE, enabling a Public Dashboard is as easy as toggling a switch.

What the Dashboard Offers

Once enabled, the Public Dashboard mirrors the analytics available within HDE, but with one key difference: all PII is automatically removed. Names and other sensitive identifiers are stripped from view ensuring full HIPAA compliance.

The dashboard includes:

  • Interactive Charts & Filters: View trends by cause of death, age group, location, and more
  • Real-Time Updates: As new data is imported into HDE, the public view updates automatically
  • Click-to-Filter & Quick Search: Users can explore the data in a dynamic and engaging way
  • 10-Year Trends: A dedicated chart shows long-term MDI patterns at a glance
  • Embeddable Access: The dashboard can be added to any website via iFrame or shared as a direct link

Empowering Public Insight Without Extra Burden

By default, the Public Dashboard uses a standard layout and configuration, minimizing setup time. Users can preview exactly what the public will see through a new tab within their workspace, ensuring full control and confidence before sharing any data externally.

Whether it's responding to increased public interest or simply making data more accessible, HDE makes it easier to share insights that matter without compromising the trust and privacy of individuals involved. With HDE, your office can lead the way in transparent, secure public health reporting that benefits everyone.
